South High School Counseling Mission Statement

Our mission as professional school counselors is to provide a comprehensive, equitable, data-driven counseling program to ensure that all students excel academically, and have the personal-social and post-secondary readiness skills needed to promote global learning and responsible citizenship.

South High School Counseling Philosophy Statement

The counselors of South High embrace the philosophy that the school counseling program is an essential and integral part of the overall educational process. Our comprehensive program is built on the assumption that educational, career, and personal objectives are attainable when school counseling for all students is provided. This implementation acknowledges that school counseling is no longer a service to be offered by one person, but a program coordinated with other educators incorporating a comprehensive curriculum. Growth and learning are developmental; therefore, school counseling services must be developmental and sequential in nature and in structure.

What do South High School Counselors Do?

Counselors at South High School spend most of their time providing direct service to students through the school counseling core curriculum and individual student planning.  The core curriculum is designed to provide all students with knowledge, attitudes and skills appropriate for their developmental level.  Counselors work individually with students to help them develop their personal goals and individual plans.  Counselors also intervene and support students in crises situations.  Counselors work closely with parents/guardians, administrators, teachers, special service providers,  the school psychologist and social worker to ensure that they meet the needs of each student.
