Head Coach Introduction

Baseball Update and News
The 2017 Spring season proved to be successful in many ways. From our growing numbers, to the success of the JV team and the competitiveness of the Varsity group. On the field the Varsity competed all season long. Unfortunately they lost 6 games by a total of 9 runs and two of those games went extra innings. Those games cost our Rebels a chance at its first winning season in 10+ years. Four Freshman players earned their Varsity letter. Seniors Dominic Chavez, Casey Seppelt and George Filholm all were honored by the Denver Prep League. Chavez was a first team All DPL selection, Seppelt 2nd Team and Filholm received Honorable Mention honors. The JV squad won 11 games and threw a no hitter vs. Hinkley HS. Off the field we had 9 members of our program recognized as “Honor Athletes” for their classroom achievements. Above all the culture of “Program 1st” has resonated with our athletes. (See pictures below)
Personally I was again asked by North HS Coach Ernesto Marquez to be on his staff for the All State Senior game coaching our DPL athletes to a 12-7 victory over the senior All Stars from the Denver Metro League. Chavez, Seppelt and Filholm represented South in that game. (See pictures below)
The 2017 Summer Program grew to two teams and had 32 athletes. The 17/16u team played in 4 tournaments and won some big games against many club teams. Their tournament success translated into double header splits with North and East and sweeps over Overland and GW. The RBI squad made up of both incoming freshman and current freshman won the league and home field advantage through the tournament by finishing the regular season schedule 11-2. They then swept the 3 games in the tournament to win the JR RBI title. These athletes were then recognized at a Coors field before the Rockies / Padres game on July 17. (See pictures below)
Rebel baseball continues to grow in numbers as we are looking at a possible 45 players this coming spring season, up from 32 last year and 21 the year prior. It was the program goal to field three teams by the Spring 2018 season …. that now looks to be reality.
As always my line of communication is always open … email with any inquiries.
Our on field goal is to be Denver Prep League champion and participate in the State tournament every year. Though our main goal is to always make sure our players are their absolute best in the classroom and in their community
with respect,
Coach Grubesic

Many Unified Partners, Athletes, and Volunteers make this program a success!

At Denver South we offer Unified Teams for Soccer, Flag Football, Basketball, Floor Hockey, and Track!

Promoting Social Inclusion Through Sport:
“Unified Sports joins people with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team. It was inspired by a simple principle: training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding.”

Unified Athletes: Benefit greatly from class and competition: Students learn the importance of communication, perseverance, and working together as a team to have fun! Athletes improve their mobility, coordination, and work on life skills like sharing and staying active.

Unified Partners: Students join Unified Class to earn PE credit while improving their physical fitness, sharpening their skills and learning acceptance and inclusion while participating in Unified Sports. A primary goal of Unified Sports is to equalize the ability level of Unified Athletes with their Partners and to promote inclusion through team practice and competition.
